The increased use of glass in architecture today makes it imperative to consider the comfort of a building’s
occupants. Solar control glass can be an attractive feature of a building whilst at the same time minimising, or even eliminating the need for an air-conditioning systems, reducing running costs of the building and saving energy.

A solar control glass is a glass with a special coating designed to reduce the amount of heat entering a building. It reflects and absorbs heat as well as filtering light for reduced glare. There are many types of solar control glass offering different aesthetic options; tinted, reflective and neutral.

In hot climates, solar control glass can be used to minimise solar heat gain and help control glare.

In temperate regions, it can be used to balance solar control with high levels of natural light.

Solar control glass can be specified for any situation where excessive solar heat gain is likely to be an issue, eg. large façades, glass walkways, atria and conservatories.

Solar control glass is not necessarily coloured or mirrored glass, although such finishes can be applied for aesthetic purposes if desired. It incorporates invisible layers of special materials on the glass which have the dual effect of allowing sunlight in,
while repelling solar heat. Solar control glass units are typically double glazed, which means they also insulate well.

All products are available in toughened or laminated form for safety and security requirements and can be combined with other benefits such as noise control.
